Batman Forever Merchandise Review - Leaping Batman statue from Applause

Applause was a company that made several 12 inch cold cast statues for Batman Forever that I reviewed a while back.

But I knew there was one more statue that they produced and I wasn't able to get it until now.

It comes in a huge polystyrene box but is actually only about 8 inches high. It depicts Batman in the sonar suit leaping off a rooftop.

As I say in the video, I like how clever the figure is given that it is actually off the ground and is held in place by the cape. But the likeness and proportions are very cartoon-y and reminds me of the Batman Forever Kids illustration style (See the video I did on the Style Guide).

Anyway, it feels good to have all the Applause stuff now.

Batman Forever Merchandise Review - 12" Cold Cast Two Face statue from Applause

After what feels like a lot of searching I finally tracked down a Two Face Applause statue to go with my other three.

It's a pretty great sculpt and - for Applause - not a terrible paint job. There's a few things that could have been better (like the black glove which should have been a fingerless glove) but it's nothing a quick custom paint job wouldn't fix.

If you can find these for a decent price (under £30) I would recommend these. They are pretty great.

Batman Forever Merchandise Review - 12 inch Cold Cast Riddler statue from Applause

I've been looking for the Riddler and Two Face statues from Applause for a long time and finally managed to snag the former.

It's a little more of a cartoon-y sculpt compared to the others but still a decent representation of Jim Carrey. I love how he's slinging his cane over his shoulder and from a distance the statue looks cool.

As with all Applause pieces the paint work leaves something to be desired but that could be fixed if you're interested in customizing the statue.

Batman Forever Merchandise Review - Batman vs The Riddler Cold Cast Statue from Applause

This week we're looking at the final Cold Cast Statue from Applause - Batman vs the Riddler in the Riddler's Throne Room. Unfortunately my one is slightly damaged but you get the idea. Batman raising the Riddler off his feet with one hand. This was something based on the concept art from the Style Guide which featured several illustrations of Batman grabbing Riddler by his collar (something that never happens in the film, they have no physical altercation at all).

Batman Forever Merchandise Review - Robin vs Two Face Cold Cast Statue from Applause

This week we're looking at the Robin vs Two Face Cold Cast Statue from Applause  - a resin diorama recreation of the scene from the end of the film where Robin fistfights with Two Face on top of the elevated rocks of Claw Island. As with previous Applause statues it's good but let down slightly by the poor quality control on the paint.

Batman Forever Merchandise Review - Batman and Robin Cold Cast Statue from Applause

This week we're looking at the Batman and Robin Cold Cast Statue from Applause, a neat little resin diorama of the dynamic duo looking out over Gotham from atop a gargoyle. Apparently they made only 5000 of these.

I think this is loosely based on the deleted ending but with a few changes. Robin is crouching rather than standing alongside Batman and the gargoyle is a bizarre ram's head rather than bat shaped.

Aside from a few quality control issues, this is probably the best thing Applause did after the 12 inch statues and highly recommended if you can find it.

Batman Forever Merchandise Review – Batman Statue from Applause

Right, let's look at the 12 inch Batman statue from Applause that was released back in 1995. This is a really cool figure. Not as great as the Robin figure (already reviewed on my youtube channel) but still pretty great.

Until I can save up for the new Hot Toys Batman and Robin, this is my de facto large scale Batman and Robin. The black paintwork isn't movie accurate but I never was huge fan of the dark blue anyway. If only the face was a little better this would be perfect.

Anyway, it took me a while to track this down for a good price. There's always ones going on eBay but they tend to be £50-100 which I feel is too much. If you can find this for more like £20-30 it's worth your money.

Batman Forever Merchandise Review - Robin statue from Applause

NOTE: with all this depressing Coronavirus stuff I thought I'd move up some of my videos and release them early.

Now that we've covered most of the Applause mugs it's time to look at some of their better work - the cold cast statues. First up, is their best work the Robin statue. It's a really nice statue with a reasonably decent Chris O'Donnell likeness. My favourite aspect is the paint job which is kind of muted and far more preferable than the colourful Hot Toys figure that's coming out this year.

I've still got to get the Riddler and Two-Face figures but I recently picked up the Batman statue so a review for that will be on the way soon.
