Miscellaneous Content: Photo of Stephen Goldblatt on set

Here's a rare photo of Stephen Goldblatt - the director photography - on the set of Batman Forever with Nicole Kidman setting up a shot (I think) where the camera pulls out of the hole in the bank wall.

Batman Forever Merchandise Review – The Official Movie Book by Michael Singer

I had a request to cover this on my YouTube channel. This is the Official Movie Book by Michael Singer - a look at the behind the scenes of the movie. Interviews with the cast, concept artwork, behind the scenes photos, thoughts from the crew. Really great stuff.

The practice of making Official Movie Books like this has somewhat faded since it's heyday in the 1990s. Back then, before the internet this WAS the only way to see behind the scenes stuff. Sure it's all sanitised and studio-approved soundbites but

I had this as a kid and absolutely loved pouring over it. Pretty much all of the concept art and interesting pictures I've already scanned for the website. So don't feel like you're missing anything.

As a bonus, I also take a quick look at the books for Batman (1989), Batman Returns and Batman & Robin and I also flick through the Official Magazine of Batman Forever. Again, that has been scanned for this website and can be viewed here.

Anyway, I cannot recommend the Official Movie Book enough. It's a treasure trove of material and copies fly around on eBay, Amazon, Abebooks for pennies. You've got no excuse to have a copy on your shelf.

Behind the scenes: Batman Forever miniatures

Even though there were a fair few digital shots in Batman Forever, the majority of the Gotham City scenes were still filmed the old fashion way, with miniatures. Being a child of the 80s, I have a strong affection for these kind of effects, they may not be wholy convincing to modern audiences but they really give the movie a special, larger than life feel. And I wouldn't want it any other way.

Behind the Scenes: Batman Forever movie set blueprints

Apologies for the low resolution.

These have been on my computer so long I'm not even sure where they are from but they appear to be blueprints for some of the sets and miniatures. It's really fascinating to see the amount of time and planning was put into these. I hope you enjoy them.

Behind the Scenes: Sculpting the Batsuit

Apologies for the somewhat shoddy picture quality. Here's some photos of the Batsuit being sculpted. Interesting to note that the mannequin in the first few looks an awful lot like Michael Keaton. I guess these were made when he was still in contention for the role. It also seems to be some kind of hybrid of the Panther and Sonar suits. Very interesting.

Behind the Scenes: Batman Forever B-Roll Footage

And now for something a little different. Here's a montage I put together of all the b-roll (behind the scenes) footage I could find. Hopefully it should make an interesting watch. The miniature Gotham in particular is fascinating to see.
